Trailer photo from Google JUMP. The big things from Google I/O I think are Brillo, JUMP, Project Soli and Jacquard.
- Android M
- App privilege control: something that iOS has 2~4 years ago…
- Chrome enhancement: tabs & autopassword, something that iOS has 2~4 years ago…
- Send to app: something that iOS has 2~4 years ago…
- Android Pay: something that iOS has 1 year ago…
- Fingerprint: something that iOS has 1 year ago…
- Battery Management: auto shut down some apps is great
- Brillo
- New OS for the Internet of Things
- Google Photos
- Unlimited storage now
- JUMP
- This is the BIGGEST thing for VR
- The magic here is in the stitching process. Bavor says that Google uses a huge array of servers to combine those 16 videos into an experience that isn’t just seamless, but fully stereoscopic, which requires a slightly different camera angle for each eye.
- However, from my perspective, Google is already late and their apparatus is a little larger compared with 360 Heros and PanoCam3D
- In addition, I think the 4k video quality is not as good as what I saw from 360 Heros (The indoor Santa stereo 360 4k video). Hopefully they can improve the stitching or just buy the above two companies
- Still, I am looking forward to JUMP this summer!
- Cardboard
- Old news, 1 million users now
- Fit any phone now!
- Android Wear
- Shopping list on your wrist, watch; map around neighborhood; sketch and emoji on the Android watch.
- Wrist interaction is an old concept as for CHI, but Google made it commercially available.
- Project Soli
- Project Soli is developing a new interaction sensor using radar technology. The sensor can track sub-millimeter motions at high speed and accuracy. It fits onto a chip, can be produced at scale and built into small devices and everyday objects.
- Project Jacquard
- Project Jacquard presents a new system for weaving technology into fabric, transforming everyday objects, like clothes, into interactive surfaces.
